On site safety services are also available.

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE SERVICES

The field of industrial hygiene and safety is expanding and changing rapidly, largely in response to increasing regulatory agency involvement in worker safety and environmental protection. Environmental Health Services offers our services to industrial, government and commercial clients that stay abreast of these changes. Our Safety and Industrial Hygiene Services are tailored to the needs of our clients, and are provided in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Air Monitoring
Worksite monitoring for hazardous conditions, using a variety of direct reading instruments or sample collection with laboratory analysis. EHS uses recognized OSHA, NIOSH and EPA sampling protocols. For the many chemical for which no standard analytical method exists, EHS has developed sensitive and accurate methods for airborne exposure monitoring.

Indoor Air Quality Investigations
EHS professionals have many years of experience in diagnosing and solving indoor air quality problems. We work closely with the building owner and employees to determine the nature of the problem, including ventilation concerns, thermal comfort, chemical and biological contaminants, and social and ergonomic factors. We use the latest analytical techniques for measuring low level contaminants and use tracer gas methods where required. EHS can find and cure your indoor air quality problems.

Asbestos Management Services
Asbestos continues to be a concern for many building owners and operators. New OSHA regulations implemented in 1995 (29 CFR 1910.1001, 1926.1101) created a new set of requirements that need to be met to reduce liability and non-compliance penalties.EHS has Nevada State Licensed Asbestos Building Inspectors and Management Planners on staff to conduct facility inspections and design management plans for routine operations and maintenance (O&M) activities. We write specific work plans for building custodial and maintenance staff, so that no unintentional disturbance of asbestos occurs. If demolition and renovation activities require asbestos abatement, EHS uses our Nevada State Licensed Asbestos Project Designers to create specifications for abatement that meet OSHA and EPA requirements. EHS assists building owners with Asbestos Contractor selection and qualification, and then monitors the project, to insure that unintentional exposures to building occupants are prevented.

Microbial Contamination Evaluation and Consultation
EHS provides our clients with an objective, science-based understanding of bioaerosol contamination of buildings. We have investigated projects involving multifamily, residential, commercial and industrial facilities with mold, bacterial and other bioaerosol hazards. The experience gained by inspecting literally thousands of buildings for mold, development of sound specifications and guidelines for abatement, and our knowledge of the application of the best measurement technologies available, is invaluable to our clients.

Expert Testimony for Mold Litigation
EHS has provided expert witness testimony and litigation support services in both plaintiff and defense cases involving mold claims. Our significant experience in investigation of construction defect and insurance loss cases, and the case preparation and reports we provide has resulted in strong technical and scientific arguments for our clients. Currently, the total at risk amount of the cases we have supported is in excess of $ 200 million dollars.

Noise & Hearing Conservation

This includes program organization, selection of respirators and training in their maintenance and use, fit testing, inspection and medical examination requirements. We can provide both qualitative and quantitative fit testing procedures using the latest in fit test equipment technology.

Confined Space Entry

This includes establishing operating procedures, hazard identification, controls, testing, isolation and lock-out/tagout safeguards, emergency response plan, medical suitability and ventilation requirements.EHS can provide on-call and routine on site monitoring support for industrial facilities and utilities requiring confined space atmosphere testing and training confined space attendant support.

FACILITY AUDITS
Many companies/organizations today have made good faith efforts to comply with the myriad regulations and rules involved in providing a safe and healthy workplace. Often, however, there are items that go unnoticed or unknown until an OSHA inspector finds them, or worse, someone gets hurt. An audit of your facility can reveal these hidden and unknown items and provide you with practical plan of action to resolve them.A detailed inspection will be conducted to determine compliance with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 Subparts A through Z), National Electrical Code (NEC), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This inspection will also include a review of safety records and observation of employee work practices and procedures. At the conclusion of the inspection, a detailed written report will be prepared identifying deficiencies and recommendations for corrections where applicable. It will also include a follow-up visit to discuss the report. Some of the areas covered in the inspection include:

  • Walking/Working

  • Surfaces

  • Fire Protection

  • Storage Areas

  • Means of Egress

  • Electrical Hazards

  • Machine/Mechanical

  • Equipment

  • Warning Signs & Labels

  • Record keeping

INSURANCE/LOSS CONTROL
Environmental Health Services has a variety of loss control services available. We provide services for workers' compensation, property, casualty, and general liability (3rd party) needs.  Services offered include determinations of risk by examining conditions, practices, procedures and programs.

Accident Investigation
The primary purpose of an accident investigation is to prevent similar occurrences and thus improve safety. There are also OSHA reporting requirements which must be met. A systematic approach to accident investigation is, therefore, essential to a good safety and health program and management system. A thorough evaluation is necessary to assure management that high quality investigations offer adequate identification of causal factors and specific measures needed to eliminate or reduce the probability of recurrence of a similar type of incident. Environmental Health Services, Inc. staff has both the training and experience needed to perform these in-depth investigations, including the filing of necessary reports and recordkeeping.

Account Liaison Services
EHS can assist companies in optimizing loss control services available through your insurance carrier, and help develop a plan of action to reduce injuries and illnesses. This will result in reduced insurance premiums and lowered direct and indirect costs for the self-insured business.

ERGONOMICS

Ergonomics involves efforts to determine the relationship between the worker and the workplace. Methods are then developed to fit the workplace to the worker rather than vice versa.

Workplace Evaluations
Some ergonomic evaluations may involve complex and lengthy processes. These are usually related to worker compensation claims or litigation where a worker claims an injury. These can often be avoided, however, by having your facility or work site evaluated for potential causes of repetitive stress injuries. In many cases the cause of these injuries can be eliminated, in a cost effective manner, before they occur.
