The Taichung Landfill has a surface area of about 150,000 square meters, with refuse that extends up to 30 meters in depth.  SCS was a subconsultant to Greenland Engineering Consultants, a firm based in Taichung , Taiwan .  We were responsible for design and preparation of plans and specifications for an LFG control system.

The project included the following tasks:

• Estimation of LFG generation/recovery rates, based on field observations and modeling analyses.

• Design of an LFG control system to suit local conditions and incorporate construction materials commonly used in Taiwan .

• Preparation of plans and specifications for the LFG collection system.

• Preparation of plans and specifications for a 2,400-scfm blower/flare station so that volatile and greenhouse gases in the collected LFG are combusted prior to discharge into the atmosphere.

• Preparation of plans and specifications for LFG condensate collection and treatment.

• As of mid-1996, the construction contract had been awarded, and construction was scheduled to begin by Fall of 1996.  SCS’s involvement during and after construction included:

• Review of shop drawings for the contractor-fabricated equipment.

• Period site visits to inspect construction.

• Provision of technical assistance to the local consultant (a team member) during construction.

• System startup and balancing.
