Design and Permitting for LFGE Facilities
Typical Tasks Performed:
- Schematic process flow and hydraulic design
- Design of LFG collection well field, including plans and profiles, and details of wells, headers, condensate traps, valving, and access ports
- Civil, mechanical, and electrical design of LFG processing plant elements
- Preparation and coordination of permits for solid waste and air agencies
- Construction plans and specifications and bid documents
- Construction cost estimates
- Delivery pipeline engineering
- Construction engineering
- Start-up and adjustment (plant shakedown)
Once feasibility has been established, SCS typically is retained to either design and build the facilities under a single contract, or prepare construction plans and specifications and then provide construction/operational support.
The following are representative LFGE facilities design projects:
-
Design of LFG Collection Systems (120 extraction wells, 17 horizontal extraction wells, 30,000 feet of piping, 39 condensate drains, and blower/flare stations at 3 landfills), Salt River Landfills, Phoenix, Arizona.
-
Design of LFG Collection and Flaring System (200 extraction wells, 73,000 feet of piping, automatic condensate handling system, 3 blowers, and 2 flares), Miramar Landfill, San Diego, California. This site received SWANA’s bronze award for LFG utilization.
-
Design of Well Field, Collection System, Blowers, and Gas Transmission Pipeline for medium-Btu use of LFG in boilers, Industry Hills Exhibit and Conference Center, City of Industry, California.
-
Design of Collection System, including well field and horizontal collectors, Dunbarton Road Landfill, Manchester, New Hampshire.
-
Well Field and Collection System Design, Elda Landfill, Cincinnati, Ohio.
-
Design and Permitting of 6-Mile Transmission Pipeline, connecting 3 landfills transporting 6,000 cfm of LFG to a 20-MW power plant, Middlesex County, New Jersey.
-
Design, permitting, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 1-MW LFGE project in Weber County, Utah. The LFG system is a 30-well, 69-acre LFG collection system, the 1-MW reciprocating engine-generator plant, and electrical transmission/interconnection system.
-
LFG Collection System Design and Compressor Specification for medium-Btu transmission of LFG to a boiler at a nearby protein factory, Raleigh, North Carolina.
