ABOUT THE SEMINAR
SCS Engineers, in conjunction with our cosponsors, presents the Fifteenth Annual Arizona Landfill and Solid Waste Management Seminar, which will be held on Thursday (from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm) and Friday (from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm), May 19th and 20, 2005, and will provide participants with information on current regulatory issues, engineering, construction, and operations in Arizona and the arid southwest.  Case studies will also be presented.  This year, simultaneous translation will be provided for all attendees, as we are accepting papers in Spanish and in English.  SWANA will be crediting Continuing Education Units (CEU) for participants of the seminar and the training courses.  Cost for the seminar is $200 per person. 

SWANA TRAINING
Training opportunities will be provided on Wednesday, May 18, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, to assist in fulfilling certification requirements as established by SWANA.  Registration will begin at 7:30 am.  Breakfast is on your own, but lunch and breaks will be provided during the training day.  The two full-day training courses offered are: Waste Screening at MSW Management Facilities (Word informational flyer)and Groundwater Monitoring at MSW Facilities.  The third training course is a half-day class entitled: Operations and Safety for Collections Personnel. (Word information flyer, English or Spanish) This half-day class will be taught in Spanish in the morning, and English in the afternoon.  Lunch is provided for both half-day classes.  It is recommended that you register early for training, as there will be a maximum of 30 participants per class.  Please contact Pam Davis at (602) 840-2596 or (800) 223-8784 for more information.  The cost for Wednesday training for the full-day courses is $90 per person; the half-day Spanish or English course is $60.  

CALL FOR PAPERS
Interested speakers are invited to provide abstracts for papers either in Spanish or English, as simultaneous translation will be provided for all attendees.  Operations and Maintenance topics may include transfer stations, materials recycling facilities, composting, landfill compaction, odor control, waste characterization, alternative daily cover, gas control, landfill gas to energy, leachate recirculation, and equipment and maintenance.  Technical topics may include groundwater monitoring and modeling, vapor monitoring and modeling, storm water control, remediation, landfill gas modeling, geosynthetic design, alternative final cover, revegetation, bioreactors, slope stability, software, and emerging technologies.  Abstracts should be faxed or mailed to Pam Davis, SCS Engineers at the address on the Registration Form, or via email at pdavis@scsengineers.com.  Note: Registration fees for speakers will be waived.

 FACILITY TOUR
The facility tour on Friday will include the White Tank Transfer Station owned by Waste Management and the City of Phoenix’s Skunk Creek Landfill, which will include the landfill gas project and closure of the landfill, as well as a tour of the transfer facility under construction.  The tour will be available in Spanish and in English.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
Following the tour on Friday, a golf tournament will take place at the Legend at Arrowhead.  The cost for participating in the tournament is $65 per person.
