SCS ENGINEERS APPROVED BY CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION TO PROVIDE CERTIFICATION SERVICES FOR CALIFORNIA CLIMATE ACTION REGISTRY

Long Beach - SCS Engineers, recognized by Engineering News-Record as the nation’s leading solid waste consulting firm, has been approved by the California Energy Commission (CEC) and California Climate Action Registry to provide certification services for participants of the California Climate Action Registry, a public, non-profit organization that records certified greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data and information for registry participants.

In its role as a registry certifier, SCS Engineers is responsible for verifying calculations of GHG emissions for various organizations throughout California that have voluntarily enrolled in the registry to report emissions and reductions they have achieved. Because reporting GHG emissions is not required under federal law, companies enrolled in voluntary reporting programs potentially may receive future incentives for their GHG reporting and emission reductions. One of 16 organizations certified by the CEC and the registry, SCS Engineers was accepted as a certifier based on its extensive experience in completing GHG emission inventories for various sources. For more than eight years, SCS Engineers has served as lead contractor for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program, a voluntary assistance and partnership program that promotes climate change through the use of landfill gas as a renewable, green energy source. SCS Engineers also currently performs verifications for GHG trades of production credits under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism, an international program that assists various entities with meeting their emissions targets under the protocol. In addition, SCS Engineers has assisted the Chicago Climate Exchange with developing protocol for reporting and registering GHG emissions and credits for trade. SCS Engineers’ approval as a registry certifier is valid through April 18, 2009. Patrick Sullivan of SCS Engineers’ Sacramento office is serving as lead certifier for SCS Engineers.
