DANIEL EDELSTEIN JOINS SCS ENGINEERS BIOLOGICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT AS STAFF BIOLOGIST

SANTA ROSA -- Daniel Edelstein has joined the Santa Rosa office of SCS Engineers as a staff biologist within its Biological Services Department, announced Linda Taverner, Vice President of the North Coast operation of the leading national environmental consulting firm.

In his new role, Edelstein is responsible for conducting field surveys for common and rare plants and animals, focusing on those relating to both the California and federal Endangered Species Act. In addition, he writes compliance reports to satisfy municipal, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Previously, Edelstein was a wildlife biologist with MACTEC Engineering where he wrote compliance reports after conducting field studies on endangered plants and animals.

Edelstein received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., and his Master of Science in Natural Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He has also completed training courses on Endangered Species Act Compliance; California Tiger Salamander; California Red-Legged Frog; Riparian Restoration; and Wetlands, Regulation and Mitigation.

At night and on weekends, Edelstein teaches freelance environmental and ornithology classes at adult education settings, including Merritt College in Oakland, Calif., where he is an adjunct faculty member. With 29 years of experience studying birds nationwide, he can identify hundreds of birds by sight or sound. In addition to birds, he has conducted numerous other wildlife surveys that have required monitoring common and special-status mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Edelstein, born and raised in Shorewood, Wis., currently resides in Novato, Calif. with his wife, Linda, and a black Labrador, Sierra. In his leisure time, he enjoys Lindy Hop Swing Dancing, gardening, and listening to classic jazz music. He also volunteers for the Marin Audubon Society’s Conservation Committee; and with the San Rafael, California-based Hungry Owl Project.
