FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 25, 2005 Contact: SCS ENGINEERS ANNOUNCES NEW “SCS SECURE” BROWNFIELDS REDEVELOPMENT SERVICES GROUP
Long Beach, CA - SCS Engineers, a full-service environmental engineering and construction firm, announces the formation of SCS Secure, a new practice group offering integrated real estate, site renewal, and risk transfer solutions for environmentally impaired or underutilized properties. From its first project in 1970, SCS has assisted property owners in solving unusual environmental challenges that interfere with residential, commercial, and industrial land uses. The firm is an industry leader in the specialized area of redevelopment of closed landfills and similar sites. SCS Secure was established to help integrate environmental solutions with the real estate development process. The new group offers owners, buyers, and sellers of real estate a risk-free solution to environmental problems, including transfer of liability for impaired assets, guaranteed fixed price remediation to closure, and guidance for financial assistance. Drawing on SCS’ 35 years of experience, SCS Secure provides proven engineering, construction, and long term operations experience for environmental systems that protect people from methane, other vapors, polluted groundwater, and contaminated soils. “The formation of SCS Secure was a natural progression from our proven environmental remediation services, allowing us to more fully support developers considering brownfield projects,” said Dan Johnson, vice president of SCS Engineers based in the firm’s San Diego office. “Redevelopment projects can be far more attractive given such comprehensive ‘turn-key’ redevelopment services.” Mike McLaughlin, a Senior Vice President with SCS Engineers in the firm’s Reston, Virginia office, will lead the SCS Secure practice group. McLaughlin is an attorney and engineer with more than 25 years of experience with the firm. Other key members of the SCS Secure management team include:
SCS Engineers recently provided remediation services for the formerly contaminated 26-block area of East Village in San Diego, the current site of PETCO Park. The environmental engineering firm also completed several investigation and remediation projects on property incorporated into the Chesterfield Square retail development in South Los Angeles. Both of these projects received prestigious Phoenix Awards as examples of outstanding Brownfields redevelopment. The Phoenix Awards will be formally presented during the Brownfields 2005 conference November 2-4 in Denver.
