RETA Blue Ridge Chapter presents RETA Blue Ridge Chapter Expo Day. SCS Engineers’ and RETA professionals Gene Dumas and Bill Lape, CIRO are presenting.
Earn up to 8 PDH hours.
Bill’s presentation explores the key safety measures that EPA and OSHA look for during inspections and how to prepare for a regulatory inspection. While geared towards facilities with less than 10,000 lbs of ammonia, it is applicable to larger facilities as well.
Gene’s presentation “Repetition Breeds Compliancy,” discusses how complacency happens. Operators have checklists to help ensure they check all the important parts of the operation. A routine checklist is good, but take care not to fall into a rut of doing the checklists the same way every time. This leads to complacency; which may lead to overlooking important\critical items.
Avoid complacency by changing your mindset can help. Instead of looking at checklists, look at new ways of improving operations. Same job. Different perspective. Gene offers ideas to make routine tasks fresh and with a new perspective of looking at the same old job such as:
- Do rounds in reverse order.
- Give “atta boys” to workers doing the right thing.
- Look for and correct the low hanging fruit.
