Job Summary

SCS Engineers is seeking a mid- to senior-level professional in one of our California offices (Sacramento, Long Beach, San Diego, Pleasanton, or Santa Rosa) to perform various activities related to our air quality, air dispersion modeling, and risk assessment consulting practice. The ideal candidate will be experienced, self-motivated, embrace teamwork, and have the desire to grow and develop our air quality, modeling, and risk assessment practices.  Remote or hybrid working arrangement will be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Air dispersion modeling for air permitting, risk assessment, and other studies
• Air toxics risk assessment.
• Air permitting and compliance work
• Emissions modeling for mobile sources
• Oversight of air testing, sampling, and monitoring
• California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) air quality impact assessments (AQIAs)
• Document preparation, calculations, modeling, proposals, and business development related to the above-listed work
• A mixture of office and field work expected, with an emphasis on office work
• Some work-related travel will be necessary but usually limited to a single day and short trips.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Environmental modeling, especially air quality; AERMOD proficiency required
• Expertise in risk assessment development, including understanding of California and federal guidance, exposure assessment techniques and models, and risk calculations required
• Knowledge of air quality regulations and guidance, especially those related to modeling and risk assessment required
• Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel, especially emission and risk calculations required
• Database use and XML knowledge desired
• Understanding of laboratory analytical procedures, sample collection, especially air sampling and monitoring equipment and techniques desired
• Indepth knowledge of air quality, GHG, and CEQA regulations and guidance preferred

Qualifications

• Masters Degree (or Bachelor’s with significant experience) in physical sciences, engineering, or related subject required
• 3+ years of directly related environmental experience required
• Microsoft Office proficiency required, especially MS-Word and MS-Excel
• HAZWOPER training completed and up to date desired
• Valid driver’s license with driving record in good standing required
• Basic understanding of air quality regulations required
