What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for an Environmental Scientist/Compliance Field Lead to support the Portland office. You will provide final draft reports and engineering design documents to the Project Manager or Project Director for deliverables for private and municipal clients. You will be a delegated Project Lead on one or more projects. The projects will be focus on solid waste and environmental services.

How you can make an impact

You will perform, train and lead staff in performance of the following:

  • A mixture of up to 70% field work to 30% office work is expected during much of the year.
  • Maintain and enforce a safe work environment for all staff and others in work area.
  • Coordinate field work and field staff for multiple projects.
  • Perform field environmental monitoring. Includes groundwater, leachate, surface water, and stormwater. Also includes landfill gas probe and penetration monitoring, and surface emissions monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records for all field events.
  • Provide support and training for other field staff as they prepare and perform field environmental monitoring events.
  • Perform lab data QA/QC, review analytical data, and assist with data management.
  • Assist project managers with scheduling and coordination of field events and communication of projects progress and deliverable timelines.
  • Maintain SCS and client field equipment; keep accurate logs of equipment and vehicle usage.
  • Perform analysis on data using Dumpstat and AquaChem applications, and other methods, and perform other related data management activities.
  • Conduct and assist with non-routine tasks, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and out-of-scope field monitoring.
  • Draft figures, tables, and other report deliverables for project managers.
  • Represent SCS to clients and regulators in the field.

SCS will provide training for all of the above duties but expects applicants to have significant compliance sampling experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Geology, or Science required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel) required
  • Field equipment and field sampling experience required.
  • Valid Drivers License with a driving record in good standing required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds for a distance of one quarter mile (fitness testing may be required).

Pay range for this position is $55k to $65k depending on experience. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
