What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for an experienced geotechnical engineer to join our established team to serve us nationwide as the Geotechnical Engineering Practice Leader. The Geotechnical Engineering Practice Leader will serve as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer being groomed to assume responsibility as the Geotechnical Engineering Practice Leader. Your geotechnical engineering skills will be adapted to our nationwide solid waste engineering practice under the tutelage of two long-term engineers who have served as SCSs national Geotechnical Experts for several decades. Ideally you would be hybrid out of one of our Mid-Atlantic offices, but remote work will be considered.

How you can make an impact

You will wear several hats, including serving as a Geotechnical Expert and as a Project Manager for landfill and facility design projects, and for construction quality assurance (CQA).

As our Geotechnical Expert you will contribute to SCS by adapting your geotechnical engineering capabilities to the landfill industry. Examples of geotechnical engineering as it applies to landfills and solid waste facilities include:

Measuring and predicting landfill settlement.

Providing slope stability modeling for new and old landfills.

Conducting geotechnical/hydrogeological investigations for waste management facilities and other environmental projects

Siting, design and regulatory permitting of new and expanding landfills

Analyzing landfill water balance using EPAs Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance (HELP) model or other models.

Demonstrating liner or leachate collection system equivalencies using EPAs MULTIMED model.

Design and preparation of construction specifications for landfill and waste management facility projects.

For construction projects, provide CQA to verify construction complies with design and permit requirements.

Preparation of proposals and cost estimates for new projects

Providing geotechnical education and training to SCS staff

As a Project Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing projects for which you are the technical expert as described above. Project Management duties include delegating and managing project staff and time; supervising, mentoring, and leading the work of junior engineers; interfacing with clients; providing work scopes and budgets; managing the efficiency of projects and tracking the revenues and profits, and invoicing clients on a monthly basis; providing quality assurance reviews of deliverables to verify that the work product meets or exceeds client expectations, the scope of work, and the SCS QMS Manual.

Other duties will include:

Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for executing projects and ensure resource availability and allocation.

Develop relationships with a network of technical experts throughout the company.

Develop proposals by working with clients to understand their goals as well as technical needs and requirements.

Actively attend conferences, present on technical topics, and be involved in professional associations and committees as appropriate.

Take a leading role and present at internal technical meetings.

Have an active role in client prospecting and developing client plans and key opportunity plans.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s of Science in civil or geotechnical engineering required.

Must be a registered professional engineer in at least one state with the ability to apply for reciprocity in others where needed.

10+ years of related work experience required.

Valid drivers license and driving record in good standing required.

Pay range for this position is $100k to $150k depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
