What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is seeking an energetic, forward-thinking, environmental professional to join our Environmental Services Team and help grow our industrial air quality and greenhouse gas practice in the Mid-Atlantic market.  The duties of this position involve assisting clients comply with the Clean Air Act and associated state regulations, including air quality permitting, ambient air monitoring, emissions inventories, odor studies, source testing, air modeling, compliance reporting, and delivering superior project management, strategic vision, and leadership related to industrial air quality and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  You can be hybrid out of any SCS office in the Mid-Atlantic Business Unit. 

How you can make an impact as an Industrial Air Quality & GHG Specialist

Experience has shown that a professional who can clearly communicate, who is responsive, and who can both do the work (or show others how to do the work) and sell the work (or show others how to sell the work) will thrive professionally and personally as part of our SCS Mid-Atlantic team.  The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of the Clean Air Act and corresponding state air regulations, have a comprehensive in-depth understanding of GHG scientific principles, protocols, and reference documents, as well as possess experience in preparing typical air quality permitting and compliance reporting documentation for regulated emissions at industrial, commercial and governmental facilities.  Typical duties and routine activities will likely include the following:

  • Support existing air quality permitting and compliance reporting project assignments (and lead in business development efforts on new contracts) for industrial, commercial and governmental facilities by completing air permit applications, developing pollutant emissions calculations, preparing certifications, and assisting clients with development and implementation of air quality permitting and compliance strategies and protocols;
  • Develop new business relationships for task assignments related to GHG and climate reporting, GHG verification/validation, carbon footprint studies, and action plans;
  • Continue SCS efforts to become accredited verifiers and assist clients through the verification process and achieve carbon credit monetization, while expanding our existing GHG reporting and verification/validation practice into additional markets, industries, and geographies;
  • Support SCS services to different industries which emit methane (oil & gas production, landfills, etc.) in response to continuing regulatory and business pressure to reduce their GHG emissions and meet sustainability goals;
  • Support SCS continued development of our Big Data systems and leverage our customized database services to help clients with their various environmental and sustainability programs.
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership in expanding our GHG and climate-focused practices to serve public and private-sector clients, specifically focusing on GHG emission inventories, GHG verification and validation services, GHG and climate management plans, GHG-related sustainability plans and reports, and audits/analysis for GHG reductions and other environmental aspects of ESG initiatives.
  • Develop proposals, work orders, perform project management duties (manpower resource allocation, schedule, budgets, invoicing, progress reports, etc.) and communicate with stakeholders, regulators, and clients;
  • Work may involve field activities such as collection of samples, attending meetings (with clients, regulatory agencies and the public), site inspections, oversight of construction activities, etc.; and, 
  • Occasional travel may be required.


  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in meteorology, engineering, environmental science, or related degree required.
  • Seven or more years of experience in industrial air quality and GHG endeavors required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal air quality regulations as well as GHG protocols and programs.
  • Record of successful business development activities and professional networking credentials preferred.
  • Valid drivers license with a driving record in good standing required.
