What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a Project Engineer in the Brentwood/Nashville, Tennessee office to perform various activities related to environmental consulting. You will be experienced in business development and proposal writing, and has the desire to develop professionally as part of a national, employee-owned engineering firm. The Brentwood/Nashville office is quickly expanding and this position will support and foster existing and future relationships with colleagues, clients, and regulators. Existing client sectors include solid waste, warehousing and distribution centers, banks, and manufacturing facilities. Responsibilities include engineering and design drafting, preparation of grading and drainage plans, attending and participating in client and project meetings, preparing reports and analyzing data, and working with office staff through the region and U.S. You will have ample opportunity to develop into a leadership role. Project responsibility will have a focus on solid waste management, including landfill gas, landfills and landfill infrastructure, composting, and other projects, which may require design, engineering, permitting, bid plans and specifications, construction and operations support. Experience on general civil engineering work, not landfill specific, is acceptable. Experience in general environmental work Phase I’s, Phase II’s, storm water permitting, spill prevention and counter control measure plans, etc. are also a plus. Responsibilities will also include field work, such as maintaining a wastewater treatment system, collecting soil and water samples, etc.

How you can make an impact as a Project Engineer

  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles and practices in solid waste assignment areas and related fields.
  • Prepares engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications.
  • Think independently on engineering or scientific problems and methods, plans and coordinates work.
  • Field work performed in varied terrain and weather will be required, including but not limited to, surveys/data gathering, CQA for soil and geosynthetic material installations, inspections, etc.
  • Office based tasks including: CAD drafting, grading and profiles and volumes using Civil 3D, mathematical calculations, report writing, creating site plans and facility diagrams, permit applications, engineering plans and specifications, bid letting, etc.
  • Business development including: meeting with clients and potential clients, preparing proposals, etc.
  • Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans or projects.
  • 10 to 20 % travel expected


  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering. or Geotechnical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the fields of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering required. Experience in the solid waste industry, including landfill gas management, air compliance, and landfill design and permitting, etc. preferred.
  • Tennessee P.E (civil) registration or ability to obtain within 6 months required.
  • Competent with using MS Office and other computer software normally used in environmental consulting. Experience with using AutoCAD Civil 3D design software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.
