  • Under general supervision operates, monitors, and maintains landfill gas migration control/recovery systems; provides long-term post closure care at closed landfill sites.
  • Additionally may operate, monitor, and maintain other environmental pollution control systems including VES (Vapor Extraction Systems) and GWP&T (Ground Water Pump and Treat).
  • Perform work in a professional, productive and safe manner. 
  • Continually strive to improve the Offices and ones own, health & safety performance. 
  • Adopt the principles of SCSs Safety Culture.
  • Understand the Companys philosophy regarding behavior based safety and play a part in eliminating unsafe practices and conditions.
  • Travel up to 90% in the Southeast.

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to the Regional Manager, Project Manager, or Project Superintendent.
  • May supervise or otherwise be assisted by Laborers, Equipment Operators, Field Technicians, Foreman, or Superintendents.


  • Field sampling of various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, pumps, etc.
  • Data recording and analysis.
  • Based on data review and consultation with supervisor, adjusts gas flow rates from wells, headers, and blowers (pumps).
  • Operates and maintains various analytical equipment including calibration.
  • Records and maintains daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions to be taken.
  • Reports/consults with supervisor (and in some instances client) regarding field conditions and test results.
  • Implements necessary routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance required to keep systems operating and in compliance with various prescribed operating parameters and goals.
  • Perform, supervise, and/or otherwise assist in required maintenance and repairs.
  • Interact/supervise/manage vendors and/or sub-contractors needed to assist with operating, monitoring, and maintenance of the control/recovery systems.
  • Assist Supervisor with preparation of preliminary cost estimates/proposals for work to be performed (as needed).
  • Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings (tailgate meetings) and verify that Health and Safety standards are followed by on-site staff and sub-contractors.
  • Walks the landfill with an air-monitoring instrument to perform surface emission monitoring.
  • Use of tools, ladders, portable saws, and generators to cut pipe to raise or repair gas well piping.
  • Use grinders and extrusion welding equipment to repair or expand gas system or leachate piping.
  • May be required to operate backhoe and/or forklifts to remove soil and lift piping and equipment to perform non-routine repairs on gas system and leachate piping.
  • Lift manhole covers and enter sumps or vaults to obtain well measurements or tune gas wells.
  • Repair leachate or condensate pumps. Lift and lower repaired pumps into vaults or sumps.
  • Complete site check lists and inform supervisor of any changes or concerns
  • Participates in monthly tailgate Health and Safety meeting. Participates in monthly Health and Safety (SOP) training.
  • Prepares daily logs for work performed on sites during workday.
  • Actively participate in the SAFE process by making observations, review and assist in the development of the project health and safety plans including the associated Job Task Safety Analyses.


  • 7-10 years in O&M of mechanical systems or pipeline construction required.
  • 40 hour Health and Safety, 8 hour Management and Supervisor, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, Confined Space Entry, and Trench Excavation Safety training preferred.
  • Training in polyethylene pipe fusion for construction or, combustible gas sensor and/or ground flare O&M preferred.
  • Experience or demonstrated high degree of aptitude in mechanical work; analytical problem solving and data analysis; interpretation of plans, specifications, schematics, manufacturer manuals, system operation and maintenance manuals; interpretation of applicable codes and regulations preferred.
  • Effective organizational as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from manlifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions.
