What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a Senior Geochemist who will lead tasks that apply geochemical characterization, conceptualization, and model application to regulatory permitting and compliance projects. The successful candidate will engage with other team members, clients, regulators, and stakeholders to evaluate interactions among groundwaters, wastewaters, and geologic media. The Senior Geochemist will be part of the geologic modeling team based in our Peoria, IL office but will work on projects nationwide and could be hybrid or remote.

How you can make an impact

  • Evaluate interactions between wastewaters and deep geologic media to support Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class I projects.
  • Evaluate interactions among carbon dioxide, formation fluids, and geologic media to support UIC Class VI projects.
  • Evaluate interactions between leachates from solid wastes and shallow groundwaters and sediments to support groundwater monitoring, reporting, and remedial design.
  • Create conceptual models based on site characterization data and solve numerical models to quantitatively understand behaviors of natural and engineered systems.
  • Deliver high-quality professional services on time following federal and state regulations, SCSs Quality Assurance Program, Quality Assurance Program Plans.
  • Make decisions both independently and collaboratively on engineering or scientific problems and methods.
  • Provide technical and operational direction with responsibility for delivering positive outcomes.
  • Write technical reports and related work products.
  • Follow client and corporate contract specifications in all activities including health, safety, security, and environment.
  • Mentor and develop staff.
  • Contribute to business development activities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science required. Masters or PhD is preferred.
  • Minimum of 6years of related experience.
  • Familiar with working in the context of environmental permitting and compliance projects.
  • P.E. or P.G. license is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.

Pay range is $72K $150K/year depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
