Greg Helland, RG, LG, is a Vice President and serves as the Northwest Business Unit Director. His technical experience includes management and project experience related to site assessment, RI/FS, environmental monitoring and data management, hazardous waste characterization, regulatory compliance, remediation and management, Brownfields, permitting, NEPA/SEPA, and human health and ecological risk assessment.
Mr. Helland is a Vice President and serves as the Director of our Northwest Operations. His technical experience includes management and project experience related to site assessment, RI/FS, environmental monitoring and data management, hazardous waste characterization, regulatory compliance, remediation and management, Brownfields, permitting, NEPA/SEPA, and human health and ecological risk assessment. Mr. Helland has also served as project director for stormwater compliance, UST management and closure, spill prevention planning, and hazardous waste management/minimization projects.
As Northwest Business Unit Director, Mr. Helland is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all contracts and scopes of work are properly executed, and that clients are provided with the highest quality data and deliverables. He ensures that regular internal project reviews are completed, that clients are kept apprised of progress and any changes, and that the clients’ expectations are satisfied.
Jay Hatho is a Senior Vice President of SCS Engineers, serving as our Chief Technology Officer/Chief Information Officer and national expert on technology services. He started the SCS development organization at SCS, which spearheads the development of innovative technologies for all data collection and automation aspects of the firm. Jay has introduced groundbreaking technology solutions previously unseen in the environmental engineering sector. These advancements have significantly lowered the operational costs of engineering projects and are now marketed as products to clients, leading to the creation of a software application, SCS eTools.
Additionally, Jay has been instrumental in developing advanced AI models for the company. These AI models enhance our technology offerings by providing sophisticated data analysis, predictive maintenance, and automated decision-making capabilities. This integration of AI has further solidified SCS Engineers’ position as a leader in technological innovation within the environmental engineering industry.

Nathan Hamm, PE, is a Senior Vice President, our Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), and National Expert on Leachate and Wastewater Management. He has over two decades of environmental engineering consulting experience and leads our Landfill Leachate and Industrial Wastewater Treatment program. Throughout his career he has worked on projects for a variety of industries including solid waste management, alternative energy, power generation, meat processing, and agricultural production. His core technical expertise is industrial wastewater and landfill leachate treatment, solid waste landfill design and construction, and civil site development. Mr. Hamm is a licensed professional engineer in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Mr. Hamm is a Senior Vice President, our Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), and National Expert on Leachate and Wastewater Management. He has over two decades of environmental engineering consulting experience and leads our Landfill Leachate and Industrial Wastewater Treatment program. His core technical expertise is industrial wastewater and landfill leachate treatment, anaerobic digestion, solid waste landfill design and construction, and civil site development. He is responsible for managing complex projects, maintaining client relationships, and providing technical guidance while leading the firm’s strategic business development.
Throughout his career he has worked on projects for a variety of industries including solid waste management, alternative energy, power generation, meat processing, and agricultural production. He has served in a variety of technical and management roles including project engineer, project manager, client manager, team leader, and office manager. He is adept at listening to client’s needs, understanding the underlying business and personal drivers, and developing solutions to their most challenging environmental problems.
