SCS Engineers Plans to Assist with Sustainability Projects

July 5, 2007

USGB LogoSCS Engineers (SCS) has joined the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in an effort to assist with and promote sustainable design and engineering. In fact, the purpose of the non-profit USGBC is to unite building industry leaders to produce buildings that are environmentally sustainable.

More than 9,000 member organizations and their network of 75 regional chapters are united via the USGBC to advance this goal.  A key element of this process is the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ – a nationally recognized certification program for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

SCS plans to assist clients in obtaining LEED certification for their new construction and major renovation projects, by providing services in the following LEED certification credit areas:

  • Brownfield Redevelopment
  • Stormwater Design
  • Innovative Wastewater Technologies
  • Water Use Reduction
  • On-site Renewable Energy (Landfill Gas)
  • Green Power
  • Storage and Collection of Recyclables
  • Construction Waste Management
  • Materials Reuse
  • Indoor Air Quality Management
  • Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control
  • Innovation in Design
  • LEED Accredited Professional

SCS has been providing services in many of these areas since the 1970s, long before the LEED certification program was initiated. We plan to apply our decades of experience to assist our clients in obtaining LEED certification in a timely and cost effective manner. For example, we are currently providing solid waste management program and recycling services to support LEED certification of a major renovation project at the Pentagon.
