The task of performing audits, inspections, and recertifications required by the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) regulations is frequently neglected. The daily workload of engineering and maintenance personnel, along with their usual conviction that repairs and maintenance have priority, results in programs of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) programs being put “on the shelf.” When OSHA, EPA, or other regulatory agencies inspect your facility and documentation of required programs, huge fines can be assessed for being out of compliance.
