What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a Project Development Engineer (Energy Infrastructure) to join our Energy Division. The division focuses on the business development and sales of alternative energy infrastructure design/build/operate projects in gas processing and other similar sectors. SCS Energys projects, currently operating, or currently under design or construction, capture and utilize valuable energy resources and remove millions of tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) in greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. Our projects help a diversified client base achieve their energy goals by assembling environmentally responsible designs to diversify their energy portfolio. We prefer you to be based in Long Beach, CA but we are open to remote work.

The Project Development Engineer will report directly to the VP of Business Development and be responsible for leading the sales engineering development of energy projects from conception through to financial close. You will primarily be responsible for assembling proposals and providing technical support to existing and prospective clients. Additionally, you will develop procedures, templates, and strategies that improve the internal work processes of the sales department. This role requires a technical and strategic thinker with a strong background in the energy industry, particularly in alternative energy, who can manage complex projects and drive them to completion. The ideal candidate is a well-organized individual, a quick learner, and has excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

How you can make an impact

  • Assembly of technical proposals in response to client inquiries or RFPs
  • Lead and track the development of potential clients energy projects, including RNG, Cogen, LNG, CCUS, Hydrogen, SAF and other renewable technologies from inception to financial investment using Deltek Vantagepoint CRM software.
  • Develop or coordinate the development of FEL-0, FEL-1 and FEL-2 deliverables (FEED) and facilitate client project approval for these stage gates.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including Basis of Design, PFDs, layouts, equipment lists, material requisitions, schedules and other FEED documentation.
  • Collaborate and interface with vendors and procurement teams to specify equipment and assemble estimates for Engineering and EPC (Design-Build) projects.
  • Conduct financial and commercial modeling to assess project viability for customers.
  • Engage with project stakeholders, including client developers, suppliers, engineering subconsultants, and construction trades.
  • Manage contract analysis, due diligence, and negotiations.
  • Oversee proposal schedules, track deadlines and deliverables, understand client decision-making drivers.
  • Conduct product line presentations to potential clients virtually from the Office and in person.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Business Development to develop effective sales strategies and to streamline department workflows for optimizing efficiency.
  • Assemble competitor, industry and market profiles at the direction of the VP of Business Development.
  • Coordinate the assembly of marketing materials and brochures for our product lines.
  • Collect, organize, plot and analyze historical equipment and pricing data.
  • Travel and participate in trade shows and industry presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or masters degree in engineering, Business, or related field;
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in project development within the energy infrastructure (or similar) sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and managing capital infrastructure projects, or demonstrate the ability to do so.
  • Strong technical aptitude and understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering principles.
  • Proficient in technical and commercial proposal writing.
  • Understanding of engineering economics and process optimization.
  • Understanding of energy markets, financial modeling, and contract management is a plus.
  • Understanding of capital project estimating concepts is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills are preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to travel to meet with clients and participate in industry events (20-percent).

Pay range for this position is $80k to $135k depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
