Landmark Award: Vista Hermosa Natural Park

Developed in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District, the City of Los Angeles, and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, this once contaminated and neglected piece of land is transformed into an award-winning community greenspace called Vista Hermosa Natural Park with the help of SCS Engineers remediation specialists.

Vista Hermosa features walking trails, streams, meadows, oak savannahs, picnic grounds, and a nature-themed playground amidst native Mediterranean vegetation. A FIFA-regulation soccer field is jointly used by the adjacent Learning Center and the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks. An outdoor amphitheater in a grotto provides an ideal setting for environmental and natural history education and other public events. Interpretive programs for community and youth are led by Community Nature Connection naturalists, including a free “Transit to Trails” bus program to the Santa Monica Mountains. SCS is very proud to be of assistance to the partnership and community in the creation of this urban habitat.
