Tempe, AZ – SCS Engineers, an award-winning environmental consulting firm, is expanding its Arizona staff to meet the growing demand for sustainable environmental engineering services. Joining SCS are Erin Abel and Michael Kraus, who support the region’s municipalities and businesses by providing solutions that safeguard the environment.
Today’s commercial real estate transactions must consider environmental issues. Complex laws can impose significant environmental liabilities on purchasers, sellers, and lenders, whether or not they caused the problem or still own the property.
Abel works in SCS’ Tucson office. She conducts Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs). She works with the Arizona State Mine Inspector’s Office and the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. Abel brings over five years of experience as an environmental scientist and hydrogeologist at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. She also served as a GIS consultant at a Tucson company and as a GIS coordinator for the U.S. Army’s Sustainable Range Program at Fort Huachuca. Abel earned a master’s in environmental science and a bachelor’s in geosciences from the University of Arizona. She is a certified environmental scientist and is a registered geologist.
Kraus conducts Phase I and Phase II ESAs and prepares reports. He brings over a decade of field and office experience in soil, groundwater, and vapor characterization and environmental assessments. He previously worked as a senior project geologist at a company in Phoenix. Kraus earned a bachelor’s in geological sciences from Arizona State University. He is a registered professional geologist.
“Erin and Michael provide professional scientific expertise with in-depth project management experience that will assist our clients as they move toward greater sustainability,” said Iain Olness, SCS Engineers senior project manager.
