Orlando, FL – SCS Engineers is supporting the County of Volusia’s green capital improvement plan by expanding the Tomoka Farms Road Landfill. SCS was also recently selected to be Volusia County’s solid waste engineer. The SCS office in Orlando is managing the work.

The capital improvement project expanding the landfill into Phase Ill Area 4 will create the needed air space providing operations that are more efficient. SCS Engineers will be responsible for construction oversight and engineering services during the construction. The County selected the firm with the most experience in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) cell construction projects in Florida. SCS currently supports 22 counties in Florida.

The selection to provide solid waste engineering service to Volusia focused on hiring an engineering firm that specializes in solid waste management to support a wide variety of planned solid waste projects. The County wanted assistance with a diverse array of services from annual compliance to capital improvements. Beyond engineering support, SCS provides advice, direction, and support to the County’s Solid Waste Division for more effective and efficient operations. The industry is experiencing rapidly changing markets and embracing new technologies to help with recycling, collections, federal, state and local compliance to improve the sustainable management of solid waste.

“Volusia County’s solid waste management system is sophisticated,” states Carlo Lebron, SCS Engineers Florida Business Unit Director. “Our team understands the complexities of the landfill and solid waste programs; we are ready to provide our support to sustainable programs for the benefit of the County.”
