SCS Engineers’ staff provided geothermal design and construction administration services during the renovation of a school by adding a geothermal vertical closed-loop system.
The system incorporates reverse-return piping and an underground geothermal vault that houses circuit valves and other components. Approximately 15% of the installation costs were reduced during the design process as a result of the design team installing a test bore and administering a ground conductivity test.
The geothermal system is expected to save the school district approximately 20% in utility costs, and generate a simple payback within 10 years.
