SCS Engineers concluded a comprehensive study of odor nuisance issues associated with the Prima Deschecha Landfill in Orange County, California.
Local neighborhoods were complaining of odors from landfill operations. SCS was hired to conduct extensive research to determine the meteorological conditions most associated with odor events. Odor flux measurements were collected with respect to all aspects of the landfill to determine odor emissions. Extensive modeling was conducted using AERMOD to assess the overall worst case odor footprint of the landfill. Tracer studies were also conducted to confirm and fine-tune modeling findings.
SCS Engineers then worked with landfill management to conduct community meetings to convey the findings and to institute new standard operating procedures (SOPs) and controls with the aim of reducing odors.
