What we are looking for
SCS Engineers is seeking an air quality/landfill gas engineer or scientist to join and support our air quality, landfill gas, and greenhouse gas practice in the Mid-Atlantic market. You will possess extensive knowledge of the Clean Air Act and corresponding state air regulations, have a comprehensive in-depth understanding of GHG scientific principles, protocols, and reference documents. The ideal candidate will have experience with landfill gas collection and control systems, as well as possess experience in preparing typical air quality permitting and compliance reporting documentation for regulated emissions at industrial, commercial and governmental facilities. You will complete technical work, manage contact with clients, and manage the schedule and work product performed consistent within SCS’s quality control standards. Your work will support our solid waste and industrial clients. You will be hybrid out of our Reston, VA office.

How you can make an impact

  • You will be involved with helping clients comply with the Clean Air Act and associated state regulations, including air quality permitting, ambient air monitoring, emissions inventories, odor studies, source testing, air modeling, landfill gas system design, construction and operations; as well as compliance reporting, and project management related to air quality, landfill gas (LFG), and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Air quality permitting and compliance; greenhouse gas emissions compliance; general regulatory compliance; various permitting for solid waste and industrial facility projects.
  • Technical work may include air modeling, completing calculations, reviewing compliance issues, preparing permitting documentation, reviewing data, research, and report writing as well as related services.
  • Work may also include in field activities, such as field meetings on engineering-related issues, oversight of construction activities, collection of samples, site inspections, etc.
  • Client interaction and preparation of proposals will be required on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in meteorology, engineering, environmental science, or some other related degree required.
  • Seven or more years of experience in industrial air quality and/or LFG and/or GHG endeavors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal air quality regulations as well as LFG systems and/or GHG protocols and programs.
  • Extensive technical and persuasive writing skills and excellent oral communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with independent problem-solving skills.
  • Valid drivers license with a driving record in good standing required.

Pay range for this position is 70 to 100k/yr depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
