Funding Accelerates Efforts to Plug Abandoned Wells

Author Dave Palmerton takes us through the history and challenges of abandoned wells (also called orphan wells). Recent funding presents opportunities for companies with the appropriate knowledge and resources to plug these abandoned wells, stopping groundwater pollution and emissions. Companies will help states accelerate their efforts to restore these sites and adjacent lands and decommission associated pipelines, facilities, and infrastructure.

Dave explains how the states/companies can invest in locating and assessing undocumented orphan wells by taking advantage of expanding funding. These efforts can create jobs, reduce health and safety risks for their employees and neighbors, and reinforce their reputations with investors and the public.
