Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As the senior technical professional, plans, develops, and executes engineering or scientific projects or tasks within projects addressing unique or complex problems or specialty areas. This may involve research of the subject area, definition of scope, selection of investigative approaches, development of novel concepts/solutions, and guiding/reviewing the task/project as it is carried out.
Heads up and/or takes a major role in proposals, interviews, and other BD activities.
Has lead responsibility for maintaining liaison with individuals and units within the company or outside, on technical matters pertaining to his/her field.
Participate in health and safety training as required.
Follow all SCS health and safety protocols and ensure team members are doing the same.
Coordinate and manage field work to be completed by others.
Lead, mentor, and delegate to junior staff to advance their knowledge and career path as well as possibly directly manage junior level staff.
Delegate portions of project deliverables to junior staff for completion.
Serve as the primary lead and point of contact for projects.
Write and prepare technical reports.
Lead permitting and regulatory agency coordination efforts.
Prepare proposals and associate cost estimates.
Communicate regularly with clients via email, telephone, and in face-to-face meetings at Project Manager direction.
Actively solicit client feedback, proactively suggest changes for client satisfaction, and anticipate potential issues and develop solutions.
Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the execution of projects and ensure resource availability and allocation.
Develop strategies to solve technical challenges and provide highly skilled technical and management advice and assistance.
Ensure junior staff are utilizing applicable SOPs.
Evaluate and interpret data recorded during field work for reporting purposes and to determine future project needs.
Develop proposals by interacting with clients to understand their business objectives as well as technical needs and requirements.
Review designs, drawings, calculations, and permit documents for final submittal to the client or applicable agencies.
Complete quality control reviews on work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data tables, HASP, etc.)
Complete engineering calculations, including the use of applicable modeling programs as needed.
Coordinate and review drawing/ plan set preparation.
Actively attends Trade Shows, present on technical topics, and involved in professional associations and committees.
Develops relationships throughout the company and a network of technical experts.
Lead or have an active role in client prospecting and developing and executing client plans, sales plans, and key opportunity plans.
Review and understand SOPs, standards, and templates and make improvement suggestions.
Assist with the development of new SOPs, standards, and templates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Excellent interpersonal skills such as active listening, patience, and adaptability.
Advanced problem solving skills.
Mastery of all applicable field equipment.
Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory agencies and applicable codes.
Basic knowledge of accounting systems, project financials, purchase orders, invoicing, project budgets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.
Ability to troubleshoot field testing equipment and solve issues.
Mastery of reading and understanding technical documents and engineering design plans. Understanding of scientific concepts including: physics, statistics, chemistry, mathematics, and geosciences.
Ability to use basic hand tools such as hammer, screw driver, etc.
Ability to present at city and county hearing boards.
Bachelors of Science degree in Science or Engineering required.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in land use planning required.
Subdivision Map Act, State Planning and Zoning Laws, and CEQA knowledge required.
Endangered Species Act, NEPA and Clean Water Act experience required.
Valid drivers license with a driving record in good standing required.
