Brawley, CA – SCS Engineers (SCS) is working collaboratively with the Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC) and Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation (IVEDC) to assess brownfield properties in the Brawley Downtown Corridor and surrounding areas of Imperial County, a rural community of the ICTC regional transit service area.

Under this initiative, SCS will conduct site assessments to identify any potential environmental issues within the identified target area in Brawley, California. SCS will evaluate any issues on the properties and help refine the redevelopment strategy and action plan for the brownfields’ reuse and revitalization by ICTC and IVEDC. This initiative will provide a financial mechanism for the community to increase its inventory of developable sites to attract mixed-use retail/residential developments to create a healthy, safe and prosperous walk-able community.

“Our team has extensive Brownfield Grant experience including work on hundreds of brownfields projects,” said Dan Johnson, Vice President with SCS. “The identification, assessment, and cleanup of brownfield sites create redevelopment opportunities and encourages private investment that can transform blighted or underutilized properties into thriving communities.”

Brownfields by definition are properties with real or perceived contamination concerns which inhibit future redevelopment opportunities. Grant funds will be made available to qualifying property owners in the target area to assess and either clear concerns or put a remediation and re-use plan in place.
