Organics Management – Compost Operations in Boston, Massachusetts

SCS provided operations services for the City Soil & Greenhouse, LLC compost facility located in Mattapan. The facility accepts yard waste and uses open windrow method of composting. Operations services included provision and use of a Komptech X-60 compost turner to turn the windrows. City Soil sold the finished product through its network of purchasers.
SCS tasks included the following:

1. Prepare a layout of the Site to prepare for operations.
2. Provide a compost turner, operated by SCS staff, to turn and manage windrows on the site.
3. Monitor the windrows for temperature and moisture, and maintain records of the measurements.
