Long Beach, CA– SCS Engineers is expanding the firm’s Liquids Management practice to meet the increasing demand for wastewater consulting and engineering technical solutions. The firm’s newest professional is Viraj deSilva, Ph.D., PE, BCEE, project director. Dr. deSilva will serve SCS clients from the firm’s office in Tampa, Florida.
DeSilva provides SCS clients with over 28 years of progressive capabilities in wastewater engineering from concept through construction and start-up. His expertise in evaluating and sizing of wastewater treatment processes and components includes headworks and grit removal facilities; primary and secondary wastewater treatment; tertiary wastewater treatment; UV, anaerobic digestion, landfill leachate pretreatment, industrial wastewater pretreatment and waste‐to‐energy for facilities globally.
He brings Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) operations and management (O&M) expertise as well. DeSilva’s portfolio includes proven leadership roles in the area of WWTP O&M including energy management, solids handling processes, construction management, and WWTP equipment commissioning. His project work includes solutions for both industrial and manufacturing clients.
In addition to his involvement in professional committees and the publication of technical white papers, deSilva is an active member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE). He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University; a Masters of Engineering-Sanitary Engineering at the Muroran Institute of Technology, Japan; and his BS/MS of Civil Engineering at the Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine.
